Help! My hair is brassy.

What do you think of when I say “brassy“?

Lets face it, this word does not appeal to everyone.

The best at-home solution is purple shampoo.

Many different product lines have a purple shampoo, some even have purple conditioners.

They’re all different strengths so I would consult with your stylist to choose the right one for you.

How it works:

When you look at the color wheel, purple and yellow are opposite from each other, this means that purple will neutralize those unwanted yellowish, golden tones.

How to use on dry hair:

If your hair is VERY brassy I usually recommend applying your purple shampoo to dry hair for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.  This will result in the most neutralization.  Note: using purple shampoo on dry hair may result in over-toned, purple-ish, gray hair. Consult with your stylist to see if this is right for you.

How to use on wet hair:

When in the shower, rinse your hair with hot water.  This will slightly open the hair cuticle allowing for a better deposit of the purple pigment.  Apply your purple shampoo and let sit for 3-5 minutes.  The longer it sits the greater the result.

If you accidentally over-do it, don’t worry, the tone will fade with a few washes.  I recommend using purple shampoo twice a week or every-other wash. Purple shampoo is great for gray hair, blondes and those vibrant violets!
